STEM Workshop (October 2017)
The kids attended the first of this series: STEM for Families, at our local library. They learned about Biomedical Engineering. The workshop presenters discussed the mechanisms involved in use of our hands. They learned about how the bones make bending the fingers possible, and how the brain communicates with the muscles that make movement possible.
What do you do if you lost the use of a hand?
The kids set out to address the question from a medical and engineering angle, keeping in mind the biological intricacies of the hand. They got busy and each built a prosthetic hand model.
A truly "hands-on" experience !
